Bear Aware & Garbage Bin Loaner Program
Because we live in excellent bear habitat, black bears are extremely common and grizzly bears sometimes inhabit the Sixmile and Ninemile Valleys. Learn how to cohabitate with bears
Wildlife looting trash cans for food leads to problems for the animals and the people involved. NWW, along with Allied Waste Services and others, has created a garbage bin loaner program directed at reducing these conflicts. Learn More
Wildlife Lecture Series
The NWW Annual “Celebrate Wildlife” Lecture Series began in the winter of 2007-08 and has been a success ever since. From “Planting for Wildlife” to live demonstrations of aversive conditioning techniques with Karelian bear dogs, be sure to check out the winter line-up of great speakers and interesting topics for 2011 here.
Newsletters
Our semi-annual newsletter is mailed to all NWW members and residents of the greater Ninemile-Sixmile area every spring and fall. These newsletters introduce our group to local communities while providing tips on living with wildlife, informing residents about ongoing projects and upcoming events, and providing basic information about vehicles and wildlife. Have a peek at our past issues! Spring 2007 / Fall 2007 / Spring 2008 / Fall 2008 / Spring 2009 / Fall 2009 / Spring 2010 /

Camera Monitoring
NWW has been using motion sensing cameras to monitor wildlife movement in the I-90 corridor and other areas in the Ninemile and Sixmile Valleys since May of 2006. Our goal is to provide scientifically defensible data to agencies such as the Montana Department of Transportation and Missoula County so that wildlife and human safety are given consideration in current and future projects. Take a look at some pictures of our local wildlife caught on camera or check out our results.
Adopt a Highway Program
Members of the Ninemile Wildlife Workgroup maintain a 2 mile stretch of Hwy. 10 west of the old railroad bridge. We pick up trash along our stretch of highway frequently. If you’d like to help, please contact Dale Chik at ninemilewildlife@gmail.com

Ninemile Landowner Survey
This survey is meant to: (1) gather local knowledge about wildlife crossing locations along the Interstate 90-Ninemile Corridor; (2) increase our understanding of how residents of this corridor live with and feel about wildlife; and (3) improve our knowledge of how to better serve our constituents. The survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete. All survey answers are confidential.
